McQuown is how one of my ancestors surname was spelled. Is this the same as McEwen/MacEwen?
Just wondering because I find this fascinating.
Mark and Judy here...
We have to admit, we're not experts in all of this... After one of our trips to Scotland, we just decided it would be fun to provide a page where people could maybe connect and learn a little more about the Clan.
Have you read about our visit to the Castle? Some of our visitors have written about visits too.
At the castle site, the name is spelled MacEwen. We spell ours a different way, but it SOUNDS the same. The old Clan names were Gaelic, and mostly phonetic more than written. We've heard that it might come from MacEoghainn.... Try and pronounce THAT... then write it down!
Anyway, as near as we can tell, it's very likely that McQuown is another spelling of MacEwen or McEwan or whatever. We've had other McQuowns check in... but maybe you've found their submissions.
We just think it's all fun to hear from people all over the world who probably had ancestors in Scotland... so whether we're long lost cousins or not... welcome!
Happy travels... even if you don't travel the world... just remember that life is a journey... embrace and enjoy it! Judy and Mark

But... We'd love to have you share this page or comment on it…
